Launching Girls in Motion: a playbook to support girls in humanitarian settings
Today on Human’s Rights Day, Women Win is proud to present our latest girl-centred tool: The Girls in Motion Playbook. The playbook will include best practices and case studies supporting girls in humanitarian settings through sport.
Every day, adolescent girls worldwide face significant risks. In humanitarian contexts, these risks are multiplied and exacerbated, further aggravating existing gender inequalities.
The Girls in Motion playbook seeks to support organisations and practitioners to design, develop and deliver adolescent girl-centred sport programmes in humanitarian settings everywhere.
The need
Over the last decade, sport has increasingly been used as a tool for empowering youth in developing countries, including in humanitarian settings. However, Women Win has noticed a significant gap in the tools, frameworks and approaches available at the intersection of sport programming, girls’ rights and humanitarian contexts.
Our solution
In an effort to close this gap, Women Win through our girls’ rights through sports initiative, GRLS, has created The Girls in Motion Playbook, a collaborative exploration of how local communities in humanitarian settings can foster gender-transformative environments, with adolescent girls in the lead, through sport.
Having the freedom to play gives girls confidence to rewrite the narrative that was already written for them. Through sports, girls build self-esteem, courage and take back ownership of their own lives.
Today, and every day, we want to inspire quality sport programming for adolescent girls everywhere. To access the Girls in Motion Playbook, click here.
