Alexandra Bozuwa
Alex joined the Women Win team in February 2023 as an intern under the LEAP workstream. Alex lives in Amsterdam and is currently pursuing a master’s in Social Policy and Public Health at Utrecht University. Prior to Women Win, Alex spent several years working in both South Africa and Malawi for the NGO, Grassroot Soccer. She developed, advised on, and operationalized Grassroot Soccer’s technical assistance strategy to support partners across the world to adapt and implement a play-based approach to addressing adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), HIV, and other life skills. Through her internship at Women Win, she aims to continue to be an advocate for women’s and girls’ rights and a champion for the power of play.
Alex’s passion for sport, play, and youth extend beyond her professional career. In her personal time, she is a volunteer coach for Project Fearless in Amsterdam, where she leads weekly football sessions focused on creating non-threatening spaces for girls and non-binary youth to enter and engage in sport and play. She also serves as a Nike Made to Play Coach Educator supporting other community coaches in Amsterdam to create more inclusive and positive play environments for young people. Alex also plays football herself for the local club, WV HEDW in Amsterdam Oost.
Outside of sports, Alex loves to connect, learn from, and laugh with new people. She is curious about the world and the diverse experiences of the people in it. She is a Dad joke enthusiast (the pun-ier the better), loves spotting the small absurdities and quirkiness of daily life, and tries to make time to get in touch with her inner creative through drawing, repurposing discarded furniture, or the occasional pottery class. She admits to being a terrible cook but can whip up a mean scrambled egg!
