Are you a female post collegiate athlete who wants to make a difference in this world through sport? As a Women's Sports Corps Fellow, you will have the opportunity to impact the lives of girls playing sport by working with sport for social change organizations in Africa, Asia or Latin America. Not only will you help build and be an inspiration to the next generation of female sport coaches and leaders globally but will also develop your own leadership and the necessary skills to be a change maker and leader as you transition from a being a student athlete to embarking on a career.
As a Women's Sports Corps Fellow, You Will...
Work - Fellows are matched, based on skill sets and in country needs, with grassroots sport for social change organizations trying to grow their girls' sport programs. You will be treated as a full-time staff member and will co-develop projects to lead and manage during your 10-month long fellowship. Types of projects and activities could include: coaching local girls' sport teams, creating and implementing coach training modules for the organization in order to develop more local female coaches, supporting the organization's monitoring and evaluation projects, researching and writing grants, developing and leading social media and general communications action plans.
Build Skills - As a fellow, you will be building valuable skills that will support your own leadership development and prepare you for a transition from being student athlete to a change maker and leader in a future career. You will be guided through leadership activities and connected to mentors in the business and non-profit world.
Mentor - You will be paired up with a local female coach or coach in training and act as a mentor. This will ensure that your work and impact is sustainable and skills and knowledge are passed on locally to coaches and staff within the community.
Explore the World - During your 10-month fellowship, you will be living, eating and making lasting friendships in local communities where the culture, food and often language is much different than your own. In addition to your work, you will have time to explore new places and take weekend trips in the country and region.
Who Are We Looking For?
Women's Sports Corps is looking for motivated post-collegiate female athletes who have a passion for sport and spreading the game for girls around the world. Ideal candidates would:
- Be talented and flexible problem solvers
- Be passionate about girls' sport and gender equity
- Be enthusiastic about living abroad in a local urban or rural community in Africa, Asia or Latin America for 10 months
- Have an open mind and the ability to thrive in diverse and different contexts
- Have deep experience in coaching and/or playing a sport and mentoring others
