Irene works at the Dutch Central Bank as a Senior Policy Advisor on Integrity. After obtaining her international and European law degree in 2003, she was trained for two years as a legislator. Her first job was at the Ministry of Transport in The Hague and she did a secondment in Brussels. She joined the Central Bank in 2005 and subsequently took on positions as a legal counsel, a supervisor and was closely involved in the parliamentary inquiry into the Financial System. She now develops policy for financial institutions to pursue integrity in their operations and to safeguard ethical conduct of business, both at national and international level.
Her curiosity and interest in other people and cultures has taken her to many places in the world. She studied for a year in Vancouver, did an internship at the United Nations headquarters in New York, lived in Vietnam and attended a wedding in South Sudan.
Irene loves sports and especially outdoor activities. She started practising rowing at university and has been passionate about it ever since. Irene joined Women Win in 2014. Her love for sport combined with her drive for a better position for women in the world, made her decide to join Women Win: “I believe that sport is an excellent way for girls to develop self-consciousness and the experience will empower them to stand up in for their right”.
